When should we start the moving process?
In general as early as possible. However a physical pre-move survey at your residence for example only makes sense, once you know what items and furniture you want to ship. As a guideline, start looking for moving companies about 2 months before the foreseen moving date.
How to find a good moving company?
Make sure that you find a moving company that provides good quality. There are many companies out there who offer a variety of moving services. Check out the homepage, does it look professional or rather static? Is the Facebook page “alive”? Call the given office numbers or send an email to get an impression of the employees. Do they understand your needs? Are they responsive?
What will be done during a pre-move survey and does it cost me something?
The surveyor will walk through your residence with you and estimate the total volume of your shipment on which the quote is based on and check if any of your items need specialized packing for example a tailored wooden crate. On that occasion, the surveyor will also check the access to avoid any surprises on the moving day and discuss further questions you may have. He will also hand out the insurance information, customs regulations of the destination country and give you information about the timing of your move. A pre-move survey is free of charge and non-binding.
How to compare moving quotes?
If you compare moving quotes make sure you compare apples with apples. The estimated volume should be more or less the same, otherwise ask for the survey inventory taken during the survey, so you can compare if the same items are on the list. Also, make sure that you have all promised services in written form and that the quotes are transparent.
Are there any items that cannot be moved in a household goods shipment?
This depends on the country of destination, since there are different rules and regulations in each country. For almost all of them, following items are prohibited or limited: food, alcohol, drugs, pornographic material, firearms and ammunition, motor vehicles, pets and dangerous goods. These days especially the airlines are very strict that no liquid items or batteries can be added into the shipment. New items (used less than six months) are usually not considered as removal goods and therefore subject to taxes and duties. These information are not to be regarded as final, since there might be additional requirements. Please get in contact with BluFox Relocation if you have a specific question.
Is it necessary to have a transport insurance for my shipment?
Yes, we definitely recommend it. While we put all efforts into excellent protection of your goods, there are influences during the transport from the origin to destination that cannot be controlled by any moving company. We offer different options, please check the most suitable one together with your BluFox contact person.
